Augill Castle is not a conventional hotel. It is a genuine country house experience.
The castle is decorated and furnished in a traditional style in keeping with its age and character and we have retained as many original features as possible to allow the age and history of the building to speak for itself.
We do not have a formal restaurant, instead we invite guests to join our legendary dinner parties on Fridays and Saturdays and on selected other days at busy times when everyone sits together around one big table to enjoy a home-cooked set menu. There are earlier meal times and separate menus for children. On evenings when we aren't cooking we can offer sharing platters of locally sourced meats, cheeses, salads, soups and yummy puddings to graze on.
Alternatively you can enjoy a decadent traditional afternoon tea made to order just for you.
Instead of a formal bar we have our Great British Bar stocked with all British artisan drinks which we run on an honesty self -service basis but we're always on hand to help with difficult choices such as which gin to choose!
The castle sits in its own fifteen acres of beautifully kept grounds on the very edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

Located just 30 minutes from Barnard Castle and Penrith, Augill Castle in Cumbria offers a selection of luxurious rooms, suites and family houses across fifteen acres. There is free WiFi, parking, and an on-site bar.

Each room has private bathroom facilities with shower and bath, bathrobes and complementary toiletries. There is a flat-screen TV with DVD player, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities.

A full breakfast menu is served each morning. You can enjoy a drink in one of four public rooms – the drawing room, great hall, sitting room or conservatory before dinner in the restaurant or sample traditional English afternoon tea in country house surroundings.

We have a new small plates menu which is available every evening for dinner so do let us know if you'd like to book in. You can order a selection of small plates to share (or not) or even ask for a double to act like a traditional main course. Lots of seasonal choice, freshly cooked and delicious! We can cater for most dietary requirements (even picky eaters) with advance notice.

The Restaurant will open for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday. There will be no dinner service on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday - Instead guests can enjoy a selection of starters and desserts served informally.

The castle is around 6.4 km from Kirkby Stephen, Augill Castle is less than 20 minutes’ drive from the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, with Hawes just over 32.2 km away. The Lake District lies to the west, with Windermere and Keswick less than 1 hour’s drive.
