The iconic Mount Lofty House MGallery is a superbly positioned hotel and conference retreat, just 15 minutes from Adelaide city.

Mt Lofty House was built in 1852 by renowned politician and pastoralist Arthur Hardy, an Englishman who needed respite from the Adelaide plains in summer and originally built the property as summer home.

The house was famous for its extravagant dinner parties throughout the ownership of Arthur Hardy, John Richardson and Arthur Waterhouse. These previous owners are now honoured with the hotel adopting these names into Arthur Waterhouse Lounge and Bar, John Richardson Room and Hardys Verandah Restaurant.

In January of 1983 on Ash Wednesday, bush fires destroyed all but the stone walls of the property. Devastatingly the owners had never taken taken residence, only purchasing the Mt Lofty House two weeks prior. Local Stirling architect Ross Sands purchased the House with the dream of recreating it to its former glory.

It is now owned by a South Australian family who are committed to preserving the heritage yet also developing the Mt Lofty House to ensure it remains an iconic South Australian destination
