It's a 218 years old palace, was built during the 18th century by Royal house of Nagpur with Maratha influence and is considered amongst the oldest structures in Varanasi. In the early 20th century this palace was acquired by The Maharaja of Darbhanga and was christened as the famous "Darbhanga Mahal". A few decades ago it came into possession of one of the oldest and influential families of Varanasi and was named as "BrijRama Palace" after the legendary entity, the late Shri Brij Pal Das ji (who was also once the mayor of Varanasi) and his wife, the late Shrimati Rama Devi. Constructed out of solid sandstone from Chunar with beautifully carved Verandha's and Pillars, the BrijRama palace is now a luxurious destination for guest from around the world. Overlooking the Ganges river and surrounded by vibrant ghats, this palace is just a stone's throw from the famous Dasashwamedh Ghat, site of the famous Annual Ganga Aarti. It took over 17 years to renovate this palace. A truly unforgettable experience at BrijRama Palace starts with a bajra ride(a classical Indian wooden boat) from Mahishasura ghat to reach the palace.
